The easy choice of discussion is the Polish model. I found this interesting graphic of mindset in an article at Business Insider magazine. The following graphic is excerpted from a larger graphic "24 charts of Leadership Styles" by the noted author and linguist Richard D. Lewis. It remains the intellectual property of Mr. Lewis and is used here under the fair use abstract concept. I initially ran into it on Pinterest, where I stay "up" on all the hipsterism and other madness.
In this diagram, if you change the word "Polish" for "American Conservative Traditionalist" or some similar term referring to you and your kin, you will see a remarkable degree of parallelism. In what way does the "Individual Liberty minded" and "Constitutionally minded" differ from this pattern?

Another shadow state that has existed and outlasted in a game of national and ethnic survival is the Kurds. While researching the Kurds, one of the best sources to understand them at least from a Syrian perspective can be found HERE. It is important to understand that Kurds are most assuredly NOT Arab, but in many ways large and small, have similar cultural surfaces. This is natural, given the long association interface with Arabs in a shared climate and geography.
My own experience with the Kurds was working for a Kurdish General in Anbar Province for a bit. He was tougher than woodpecker lips and his primary concern was his personal security detachment. They had more gun trucks and PKM/PKC medium machine guns than I have ever seen assembled in one place. Note the gun porn link above, the PKM/PKC is a solid general purpose machine gun in wide use.

As a stateless people, Kurds exist across several modern nation states. They are particularly thick in southeastern Turkey, where a serious insurgency has operated for quite some time, despite hideous Turkish reprisals. Remember, Turkey is a NATO "ally". God will not forget America and the rest of NATO's passivity in the face of this. Know that Turkey and ISIS really have no daylight between them. Perhaps ISIS is a joint American Progressive/Turkish project? The chance of this is not zero.

These models have been adapted over many centuries, millennia even, to enable a people to survive and endure the unimaginable as they retain an optimistic hope that they may survive, perhaps even thrive again. The Kurds and the Poles, two groups that have faced annihilation, yet persevered in the face of overwhelming odds... they deserve your close attention not because I want you to become kielbasa fanatics or aficionados of pastoralism and date agriculture, but that you need to see the model of success in shadow state functions, emulate the model, and survive as a people. No one can do this for you. Your very survival as an individual, as a family, as a tribe/clan and larger depends upon many individuals, executing on this general outline.
Of note, these groups survived during times of stunning repression. Russians and Communist puppet troops grabbing families in the middle of the night, to Islamofascist psychopaths slitting the throats of entire villages. They did not have EBT cards, nor the fawning protection of the DoJ or "human rights" organizations. At varied times, the "human rights" of these groups were only assured by the competent use of AK-47s, captured arms and pure obstinacy. You quite actually only have the rights that you are willing to go to the existential mat over.
